TALI AZERAD VOICE STUDIO POLICIES & PROCEDURES

WELCOME!

Studying music is an incredible lifetime investment.  The benefits of playing an instrument and/or singing are numerous and include greater self-confidence, creativity, expressive freedom, attentiveness, perseverance, improved concentration and communication, command of vernacular and foreign languages, higher test scores, strong neural connections, lower blood pressure and anxiety levels, and so much more!   So, let’s get started and take the journey together!

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ME:

Professional instruction of vocal and breathing mechanics, repertoire selection guidance, performance coaching, song interpretation and stylistic artistry among a myriad of genres including opera, art song, musical theater, jazz, blues, pop, folk, R&B, different languages etc.   Lessons are available on Zoom and are one hour long.

WHAT I EXPECT FROM YOU:

Consistent attendance and arrival on time.  Daily practice on your own, between lessons focusing on correct pitches, rhythms, dynamics, breathing, etc.   A passion for singing.   An open mind and heart for trying new things, experimenting with – and discovering - new sounds, creating and evolving characters, communicating story through song.  Practicing two hours once a week is much less useful than practicing a focused 15- 20  minutes every day.

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU TO LESSONS:

  •  Sheet music/ lyrics in a designated lesson binder.  A pencil/ pen to jot down any notes or assignments.

ZOOM TIPS

  • If your lesson is on Zoom, use a laptop if at all possible (rather than a phone or ipad)
  • Have the laptop close to router if possible
  • Fully charge devices
  • Reset device, shut down and restart
  • Quiet environment, no tv or any crowded space
  • Have all lyrics ready in advance printed, and a pencil/ pen
  • Option to record your lesson for practice later

PAYMENT:  Venmo

ATTENDANCE/CANCELLATION:

  • Students are expected to arrive on time. The lesson will end on time, regardless of arrival time.
  • If you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson, a minimum of 24 hours advanced notice is required.   If you are able to cancel earlier, please be kind and do so.   If you are unable to cancel at least 24 hours before your lesson, you will be held responsible for the missed lesson, such that you will be required to pay in full for the cost of the lesson

PRACTICING:

  • Quality and consistency in practice is emphasized over quantity.  A very focused, deliberate 20 min practice session is far more effective than an hour of unfocused, goal-less, direction-less practice.
  • Specify your goals and intentions before you start your practice.
  • Set a timer or check a clock. You’ll be surprised how quickly the time flies when you are focused on achieving a specific goal, and how much more successful you are at progressing   technically and artistically.
  • Your commitment to practicing outside of your lesson time is directly related to your development as a musician, vocalist and artist.

WELLNESS & ILLNESS:

  • Stay healthy! You are a vocal athlete; your body is your instrument!  Avoid overuse of your voice, drink lots of water, choose good nutrition, stay physically active, and get plenty of rest.

  • Please do not attend your (in person) lesson if you are ill and contagious. Viruses can quickly spread from just one contagious student who brings an illness into the studio.
